Our centers in Indianapolis and Greenwood offer dental veneers for patients looking to enhance their smiles. These thin porcelain shells can address many cosmetic issues, such as stains, chips, gaps, and minor misalignments. Dr. Sanku designs each veneer to match the natural teeth and create a beautiful smile. With proper care, these cosmetic restorations can last 10+ years and make patients confident in their appearance.
Dr. Sanku starts preparations by removing a thin layer of natural tooth enamel to create room for the veneer. This is done using a drill to contour the tooth into the proper shape. The amount of enamel removed depends on the patient. In most cases, Dr. Sanku takes 0.3-0.5 mm off. This step may require a local anesthetic to numb the area. Once the tooth is prepped, an impression is taken to create a mold for the veneer.
The impression is sent to a dental laboratory, where the veneer is custom-made. Porcelain is the most common material used for these restorations. The technician fabricates the veneer to match the natural teeth’s shape, size, and color. High-quality porcelain mimics the light-reflecting properties of enamel. The final veneer is very thin, ranging from 0.3 to 0.7 mm.
Once the veneer is made, Dr. Sanku bonds it to the prepared tooth, which is cleaned and etched to roughen the surface. This helps the bonding material adhere. A special cement is applied to the veneer, which is then positioned on the tooth. Dr. Sanku uses a curing light to harden the material and bond the restoration. Small adjustments may be made to ensure proper fit and bite.
After bonding, Dr. Sanku checks if the veneer is properly aligned with the other teeth and makes any final adjustments to shape or shade. He also polishes the restoration to create a smooth surface and match the luster of the natural enamel. The bite is checked to ensure that the veneer does not interfere. With the procedure complete, patients have a beautifully restored smile.
